Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

A consumer goods player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Amira Nature Foods (ANFI), a global provider of packaged Indian specialty rice, with sales in over 40 countries. This stock has been in play with the bulls over the last three months, with shares up 25%.

If you take a look at the chart for Amira Nature Foods, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending strong for the last five months, with shares soaring higher from its low of $7.44 to its recent high of $17.41 a share. During that uptrend, shares of ANFI have been making mostly higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. Shares of ANFI have started to break out above some key near-term overhead resistance levels today at $15.92 to $16.25 a share. That move is quickly pushing shares of ANFI within range of triggering another big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in ANFI if it manages to break out above its all-time high of $17.41 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 226,387 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then ANFI will set up to enter new all-time-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $25 to $27 a share.

Traders can look to buy ANFI off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day at $15.03 a share or around more key near-term support at $14.72 a share. One could also buy ANFI off strength once it starts to clear $17.41 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images CAMDEN, N.J. -- Campbell Soup reported that its second-quarter profit and revenue came in above Wall Street expectations Friday, helped by the later Thanksgiving. The company said sales for its U.S. Simple Meals division rose 7 percent, lifted by higher volumes and prices and the acquisition of Plum Organics. U.S. soup sales rose 5 percent, in part because a later Thanksgiving pushed shipments to retailers back into the quarter. For the first half of the year, soup sales are still down 1 percent. Campbell Soup Co. (CPB), based in Camden, N.J., is working to find ways to boost sales of its canned soups. The company is contending with the wide availability of fresh soup in the hot food bars of supermarkets. It's also trying to update the image of its soups, and has introduced new packaging and flavors designed to appeal to a younger crowd. For the period ended Jan. 26, Campbell earned $325 million, or $1.03 a share. That compares with $190 million, or 60 cents a share, a year ago. Not including discontinued operations of its recently sold European business, Campbell said adjusted earnings were 76 cents a share, above the 73 cents a share Wall Street expected. Revenue rose to $2.28 billion, also above the $2.27 billion analysts expected, according to FactSet. The company stood by its 2014 outlook for core sales to grow by 4 percent to 5 percent and earnings a share to grow by 2 percent to 4 percent, or $2.53 to $2.58 a share. Campbell's shares rose $1.38, or 3.3 percent, to $42.35 in premarket trading. Pre-made soups can contain a large number of ingredients containing GMOs. For instance, Campbell's (CPB) popular condensed Tomato Soup lists high fructose corn syrup as its second biggest ingredient. According to the Non-GMO Project, nearly 88 percent of all corn planted in the United States is GMO.

Kraft Foods (NASDAQ: KRFT  ) and Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB  ) are the other two buyers that make sense. They already have working relationships with SodaStream.

  • [By Demitrios Kalogeropoulos]

Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB  ) is logging revenue growth at its fastest pace in years, all thanks to an aggressive acquisition strategy. But are corporate purchases like last week's nabbing of the Kelsen Group really worth the costs?

  • [By Jeremy Bowman]

Campbell Soup (NYSE: CPB  ) was also cooling off the market, as its shares fell 6.2% after an unappetizing earnings report. The world's largest soup-maker badly missed estimates, reporting earnings per share of $0.63 against expectations of $0.86, while revenues fell 1.8% to $2.17 billion, missing the analysts' mark at $2.3 billion. Guidance was also below estimates. Campbell blamed a late Thanksgiving, marketing expenses, and a change in retailer buying patterns for the earnings shortfall, but broader food shopping patterns may also be at play, as fresh produce and organic packaged goods have gained favor with the population amid the rise of Whole Foods Market and other natural-foods grocers.
